Supporting you to maintain a healthy lifestyle on your journey to recovery

RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM

Our therapeutic residential program runs for up to 6 months, and supports the growth and development of our residents. Sunrise Way is focused on achieving the best outcomes for each individual.

Upon arrival, residents are assigned a ‘buddy’ who helps them familiarise with the daily routine, provides peer support and answers any questions a new resident might have. The first weeks of the program involve tailored psycho-education group sessions, which provide foundational knowledge for the remainder of the program.

OUR PROGRAM PHASES EXPLAINED

Phase 1 - Raising ME runs for a period of 12 weeks.  Residents will gain an understanding of their addictive behaviours, build self-awareness and begin to develop coping strategies and tools to aid them in their recovery.

Phase 2 - Rising Strong also runs for 12 weeks and aims to get residents prepared for the transition from rehab back into the community. Greater responsibility is granted and residents in this phase of the program are expected to role model healthy behaviours and support residents who are in the earlier stages of their recovery.

We take a holistic approach to recovery, so a typical day at Sunrise Way includes activities that invest in your physical health, social and emotional wellbeing and building strong and supportive relationships. A typical day starts with a morning walk, breakfast, daily planning and group therapy. Our afternoon program includes specialised activities such as sports, mindfulness groups, creative or therapeutic groups.

Each resident is allocated an individual Counsellor with whom they meet weekly. To enhance outcomes for our residents, we link with other agencies providing access to medical services, psychologists, visiting psychiatric registrar and other services required to support resident’s recovery.

We recognise that engagement with other support networks can assist residents as they consider transition back into the community.  We support individuals who wish to engage with 12-step fellowships (Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous).

Our program is endorsed by the Clinical Advisory Council, comprising health professionals with a background in alcohol and other drug services.

CONTINUING CARE PROGRAM

The Continuing Care program provides ongoing counselling, case management and support upon the completion of the residential program. With a focus on ensuring graduates exit the program into stable housing, engaged in some type of purposeful activity (work, training / education or volunteering) and an ongoing healthy lifestyle.

Healthy relationships are an important aspect of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. We encourage residents to develop strong support networks which may include 12-step fellowships (Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous), church groups, sporting teams, book clubs and other social networks.

Upon completion of the residential program, graduates can apply for entry into Continuing Care accommodation. This accommodation provides safe re-entry into the community with housemates who share recovery-oriented goals.

TESTIMONIALS

Jenny, Program Completion, 2020

"The first thing I learnt was that I wasn’t alone.  I felt so alone while drinking.  That question of ‘why don’t you just stop’ was answered.  I drank to cope with feelings I couldn’t put a name to.  It was my only way of dealing.  I have learnt new, healthy ways.

I had low self esteem, no self worth to speak of from years of feeling judged.  That I wasn’t good enough - My marriage was failing and it was all my fault.  I was wrong.  I am enough as I am. The understanding of what I can and can’t control and how to let go of the things I can’t.  That living up to my values gives me so much honesty and strength in myself"

“Sunrise Way provided me everything I needed to change my life around after years of narcotics abuse, anxiety, and PTSD.

The regular psychology and counselling sessions gave me space to work through my trauma, my thoughts, and my emotions.  The program educated me to such a degree that I was able to grow into a more self-aware person and to realise my worth, my qualities and my potential.

After successful completion of the program, I went on to become an award-winning student, a support worker, and volunteer for several organisations.  I am thrilled with the success I enjoy today, thanks to my efforts to make the most of the Sunrise Way program.”

“The impact Sunrise Way has had on me is hard to explain in words, however I can say my values and beliefs are strong, my love for life is positive, the connections I have made are lifelong and my gratitude for everything I have been given is the greatest gift.

If you are considering Sunrise Way, I say “do it”!  Give yourself a break, learn to love life, love yourself and best of all have a life without drugs and alcohol.

Thank you Sunrise Way – the most positive choice I have made in my life’s journey"

“Sunrise Way rehab absolutely changed my life!  It taught me a range of skills that I now apply in my every day life.  I learnt things about myself that I didn’t know before.  Just in general I learnt a better way to live.  I really have changed phenomenally.  I barely recognise the man I am today. To be honest, it’s just amazing!

To those people who are struggling or having a hard time.  If you want to recover, if you want to change your life, dedicate yourself 100% and do it because it is possible.  I’m walking breathing proof.  I’m healthy, I’m happy and I have the capacity to make the right decisions in my life now.  None of that would have been possible if it wasn’t for Sunrise Way.  Thank you”
